Application Overview

There are 14 total executive board positions. Two of these positions (Director of Information Technology and Director of Online-Residential Communications) will have one person serving both campuses. Thus, there will be only one Director of IT and one Director of Morganton-Durham Communications. For the remaining 12 positions, there will be two people filling each position, one from each campus. For example, there will be one Academic Support Liaison for Durham's campus and one for Morganton's campus.

Responsibilities

Director of Morganton-Durham Communications

The Director of Morganton-Durham Communications will be responsible for communicating and fostering a relationship between the Durham and Morganton students. They will also serve as a liaison between faculty/staff and Morganton students to encourage the utilization of resources and engagement in various opportunities. Additionally, they will work in collaboration with the Executive Board to organize events or opportunities that encourage Morganton-Durham interactions, communicate new ideas or ways for improvement, and ultimately serve as a voice for online students. The DMDC will stay in regular communication with the Student Body President to work toward the above goals. 

Director of Online-Residential Communications

The Director of Online-Residential Communications will be responsible for communicating and fostering a relationship between the online and residential students. They will also serve as a liaison between faculty/staff and online students to encourage the utilization of resources and engagement in various opportunities. Additionally, they will work in collaboration with the Executive Board to organize events or opportunities that encourage online-residential interactions, communicate new ideas or ways for improvement, and ultimately serve as a voice for online students. The DORC will stay in regular communication with the Student Body President to work toward the above goals. 

There will be one Director of Online-Residential Communications serving both campuses

Director of Campus Climate

The Director of Campus Climate (DoCC) is responsible for attending to the needs of NCSSM students in promoting positive education and awareness of diversity, inclusion, and mental health (in collaboration with the PCC Liaison) on campus. Additionally, they will be responsible for communicating with 3CDC leadership, its members, and the Chief Diversity Officer, as well as working alongside or in collaboration with current diversity and inclusion initiatives to identify and address issues stemming from race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. The Director will also attend all Executive Board and 3CDC meetings and is encouraged to attend events hosted by 3CDC. In addition, they will be encouraged to develop and pursue their own campus climate initiatives.

Director of Community Relations

The Directors of Community Relations (DoCR) will serve as members of the Executive Board and will work to manage relations between NCSSM and organizations in our local Durham community. They will be responsible for working with Service Learning to reach out to organizations, such as businesses and nonprofits, in the surrounding area for volunteer/internship opportunities and other ways for NCSSM students to get more involved in our community. They will promote these events to the student body through social media posts and emails, and organize bus loops to events if necessary. The DoCRs will also work with the Outreach Committee to obtain student discounts, and potentially establish partnerships in which the NCSSM school store sells products from local businesses at discounted prices. They are encouraged to attend Durham City Council meetings to stay updated on local policy and relay such information to the student body and Student Government. The DoCRs will attend all Executive Board and Senate Outreach Committee meetings and work alongside the Director of Outreach. They will also be encouraged to pursue their own ideas to build connections with the local Durham community. To best fulfill these duties, they should be proficient at both in-person and online communication and outreach.

Director of Information Technology 

The Director of Information Technology will be the official head of the Division of Information Technology (DoIT). The DoIT will be responsible for the maintenance of the Student Government website, the implementation of all Internet technologies, the management of SG social media pages (in collaboration with the Chair of Outreach and Director of Public Relations), and other projects as directed by the SG Executive Board. They will upload documents from Senate meetings and other important information to the SG website to make accessible to the student body. They will also advise Student Government on technology-related legislation and will serve as the official liaison between SG and ITS. The DoIT is responsible for attending and delivering reports at Executive Board meetings (scheduled as needed). There will be one Director of IT serving both campuses

Director of Public Relations 

The Director of Public Relations (DoPR) will be the chief publicity manager for Student Government and act as a liaison between SG and the student body. They will be responsible for publicizing Student Government info, events, and initiatives via traditional and creative means (social media posts, digital and physical flyers, etc.) to raise public awareness. Additionally, they will work with the Chair of Outreach and the Director of IT to manage SG social media pages. The DoCR will attend Executive Board meetings and work closely with both Executive Board and Senate members to promote and publicize SG events. They will also be encouraged to work on their own ideas to increase SG transparency and publicity of events.

Director of State Relations 

The Directors of State Relations (DoSR) will serve as members of the Executive Board and will work to manage relations between the NCSSM Student Government Association and those of other schools. They will serve as primary delegates to the UNC Association of Student Governments and will be responsible for attending monthly meetings at a UNC-system campus (along with the President, Senate President, and other DoSR). DoSRs will also work with the Senate Renovations Committee to assist with grant writing and developing proposals and ideas for campus projects that require ASG funding.

They will also foster communication with other UNCASG liaisons to learn about and plan for campus initiatives. To best fulfill these duties, this person should be proficient at public speaking and communication, as well as writing legislation and official letters.

Elections Board Chair

The Elections Board is responsible for the execution of free and fair elections of Student Government officers. The Chair of the Elections Board is responsible for making all necessary decisions involving Student Government elections in accordance with the Student Government By-laws and established precedent, in collaboration with SG's Executive Officers and/or the SG sponsors.

The Elections Board Chair is responsible for establishing an election calendar; facilitating information sessions for interested candidates prior to each election; enforcing SG campaign guidelines; tracking candidate eligibility; facilitating campaign speeches; creating, distributing, and tabulating election ballots; and serving as a resource of information for SG members and members of the student body.

Members of the Elections Board, including the Chair, shall have no other involvement in Student Government.

Specifically, no member of the Elections Board shall be any of the following:

Candidates for elected office; staff members of a campaign for elected office; members of the Student Senate, including ex officio members; or other members of the Executive or Treasury branches of Student Government.

Members of the Elections Board shall be members of the senior class in good academic and disciplinary standing.

Food Services Liaison

The PFM (Food Services) Liaison will meet with cafeteria administrators as needed to provide feedback on the provided meals and services. They will also collect questions, comments, and concerns from members of the NCSSM student body to discuss with Mr. Newbauer, the Student Life dining services liaison, and the Director/Assistant Director of the dining services company. The PFM Liaison will also cooperate with and work alongside any NCSSM Senate members working with the PFM as well as provide accessibility to the PFM menu.

Health and Safety Services Liaison

The Health and Safety Services Liaison is responsible for advocating for quality and dignified healthcare as well as promoting a safe environment on campus. They will be required to meet regularly with the Director of Campus Health and Safety, Dr. Ayesha Yousafzai, to ensure appropriate and equitable care in the clinic as well as broader health policies at school. They will also be expected to meet with the Director of Student Services and Title IX Coordinator, Jennifer Ashe, and the Director of Campus Safety and Security, Brian Wiggs, to address any security concerns from the student body, taking a special focus on the prevailing issues of sexual assault and harassment on campus. Additionally, they will be encouraged to pursue their own initiatives to improve health and safety services. 

This is a new position.

PCC Liaison

The PCC Liaison will collaborate with Student Government to promote the counseling department's resources and opportunities. Their primary responsibility will be identifying and addressing mental health issues at NCSSM. They will attend all Executive Board and Mental Health Committee meetings and maintain a line of communication between the student body, the counseling department, and administration. They will also collect questions, comments, and concerns regarding the counseling department and its services on campus from the NCSSM student body to discuss with administrators and Student Government. The PCC Liaison will cooperate with and work alongside any NCSSM Senate members working on projects pertaining to counseling, mental health, or college/career services. They will also be encouraged to pursue their own initiatives in relation to these topics.

In order to apply for PCC Liaison, you must be a PCC for the upcoming school year.

Student Activities Liaison

The Student Activities Liaison is responsible for organizing and implementing SG sponsored campus-wide events for the student body. This includes organizing First/Last Day of Class celebrations, coordinating with the Director of Campus Climate to host the Cross-Cultural events, lock-ins, and hosting spirit week as well as smaller weekend activities to foster more school spirit and community. The Student Activities Liaison works closely with Kori Willoughby and Jennifer Ashe to plan events, and is responsible for communicating new ideas for student activities or areas to improve on. They will attend all meetings of the Executive Board and the Student Affairs Committee, and Student Activities Board (SAB) meetings.

Sustainability Liaison

The Sustainability Liaison will meet with the Executive Board to communicate and collaborate on campus-wide sustainability projects. They will also collect questions, comments, and concerns regarding sustainability on campus from the NCSSM student body to discuss with administrators and Student Government, including advocacy for divestment. The Sustainability Liaison will cooperate with and work alongside Sustainability Project leaders (SPL), NCSSM Senate members working on sustainability projects, and attend Senate Committee meetings as necessary. They will also be encouraged to pursue their own ideas to improve sustainability at NCSSM.

Academic Support Liaison

The Academic Support Liaison will work alongside Academic Programs and SG's Academic Affairs Senate Committee in order to ensure an appropriate, thriving learning environment during Academic Support. You will be responsible for seeking better ways to improve this program, and as so you will be required to attend the Academic Affairs meeting and voice your concerns and the concerns of students regarding Academic Support. You will work closely with the Executive Board and report to it. You are also encouraged to work on your own ideas.
